Karen Ellen Schmidt, 72 of Lakewood, Died Christmas Eve December 24, 2016

She was born to the late Raymond and Martha Berg, July 27, 1944 in Bellevue, NE. Karen and her family moved from Nebraska to Denver, CO when she was 2 years old. Her younger sister Janice arrived when Karen was 4. She graduated from Lincoln High School in 1962 and went to Barnes Business College for accounting which led to a short 2 year stint as a bookkeeper at GMC trucks. In 1963, she met Thomas (Tom) G. Schmidt and married him on August 09, 1964. Their first child, David J. Schmidt was born June 10, 1969 in Denver. Their second child Diane C. Schmidt was born April 10, 1973 while in Aurora. Karen and family relocated to Southwest Jefferson county for the rest of her life in 1976. Her greatest joy was the birth of her grandson Jacob Thomas Jones, born April 3, 1998. She was very proud grandmother that enjoyed a parental rebirth.

Karen choose the life of a homemaker to provide an excellent home life for her family. She enjoyed gardening, flowers, crafts and was an avid bowler. She loved birds and her favorite color was lavender. She had many great travels all over the US and Europe with her husband, children, mother and sister. In 2011, her husband Tom of 47 years, passed away.

She was lifelong member of the Lutheran Church and most notably Redeemer Lutheran Church for nearly 70 years. She was confirmed and married at Redeemer and enjoyed volunteering for the prayer circle and the women's guilds.

Karen is survived by her son, David Schmidt, daughter, Diane C Jones, grandson Jacob T Jones, sister, Janice Streets.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to Redeemer Lutheran Church

The viewing will be held at Redeemer Lutheran Church at 3300 W. Nevada Place from noon to 1pm on Friday December 30 and the funeral service will follow immediately after at 1 pm at the church. The burial will follow the funeral at Crown Hill Cemetery at 2:30. Please join the family for a luncheon following the burial at Redeemer Lutheran Church
