Karl-Heinz Meiser

January 8, 1937 — October 26, 2016

Karl-Heinz Meiser died peacefully at home on October 26, 2016 in Lakewood, Colorado at the age of 79.

Karl is survived by his wife of 53 years, Karin Bietsch Meiser, daughters Barbara Gilleland, Susie Nelson (Greg) and son Thomas Meiser (Christine), all of Lakewood. He is also survived by his eight grandchildren: Hailey, Hannah, Garrett, Dylan, Megan, Sam, Ben and Jack. Karl is survived by niece, Annette Moedinger, of Strumpfelbach, Germany. He is preceded in death by his parents, Wilhelm and Pauline Meiser, brothers Helmut and Eberhardt, and best friend/business partner of 25+ years, Bernie Schnepf.

Karl was born on January 8, 1937 in Waiblingen, Germany to Wilhelm and Pauline Meiser. He grew up during the WWII era and has shared many stories of the struggles during that time that shaped him forever. After serving his tool and die apprenticeship at Mercedes, he decided to immigrate to Canada in 1957. There he began his journey as an autobody repairman and by working odd jobs in logging camps to make ends meet. While working and living in Canada, Karl made life-long friends and developed a love for western Canada, where he eventually owned one of his favorite vacation homes. In 1960, Karl immigrated to Chicago, Illinois to work as a tool and die maker. He met and married the love of his life, Karin Bietsch, originally of Sylt, Germany, in 1963. In 1971, Karl moved his wife and three young children to Lakewood, Colorado where he would go on to found Denver Die and Molding, Inc. with partner Bernie Schnepf. Karl went on to employ nearly 150 employees and run his very successful business until retiring in 1995.

Running a business kept Karl very busy, but he always found time to take numerous scuba diving and ski trips with his kids, spend many Christmases with his family in Maui, Hawaii, relax in his cabin in Canada, and visit family and friends in Germany every year. Upon retirement, Karl's passion for travel and adventure went unmatched. He and his favorite travel companion, Karin, enjoyed travelling literally all over the world and making good friends along the way, especially on board the MS Europa. Karl also enjoyed being a member of the German fraternity, Schlaraffia, Denvera, where he appreciated the many friendships he made along the way. Although he had many worldly adventures, just relaxing by his pool at his home and enjoying his grandkids splashing around was just as important to him.

A memorial service is scheduled at 11:00 am on Wednesday, November 2, 2016 at Concordia Lutheran Church in Lakewood. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Karl's life. Contributions can be made to The Schramm Foundation, 800 Grant Street, Suite 330, Denver, CO 80203.
