Kathryn Decock

May 9, 1924 — February 1, 2013

Kathryn "Kitty" DeCock was born May 9, 1924 to Charles Wagner and Alice (Clarke) Wagner in Geddes, South Dakota. When she was about 12 years old she moved with her mother Alice to Rapid City, South Dakota where she graduated from high school. She worked in a number of businesses there and after WWII moved to Kansas City, Missouri where she worked at the Army Quartermaster's Depot. It was there that she met her husband John DeCock who was from the area. They were married in 1947. John and Kitty raised 11 children in Kansas City, eventually moving onto the Chicago area, Storm Lake, Iowa, Council Bluffs, Iowa and in 1965 they moved to the Denver area. Kitty was a skilled business person and worked as an office manager and bookkeeper in the construction business at Northwestern Engineering and then at Thomasson Concrete Company from 1967 until her retirement in 1986. In 1987, John and Kitty moved to northern California and lived in San Jose, the San Francisco area, and in Sacramento for about 5 years before returning to Denver in 1992, where they lived in the Wheat Ridge area once again.

Kitty enjoyed spending time with her children and their families, and had a great extended family that included her sister and her nieces and nephews who lived in the area. She was a mother to not only her own kids, but her kids' friends and she offered a hand to anyone in need. She enjoyed bowling during her working years. When she retired she and her friend Carry spent Saturday mornings going to breakfast at many different restaurants and then to yard sales. She was also a duplicate bridge player, and became a "life master". One of her most memorable moments was when she and her partner played with Warren Buffett and Bill Gates in a bridge tournament in Council Bluffs, IA. Kitty was a Catholic and attended Sts. Peter and Paul Church in Wheat Ridge for most of her time in Denver. She was a volunteer there in the office in her retirement and participated in Perpetual Adoration there. Kitty was a very bright light in the lives of all around her.

Kitty was preceded in death by her husband John in 2001, her mother Alice Wagner and father Charles Wagner, her sisters Blanche (Wilde) and Maude (Brockelsby), and her brothers Bobby and Gerald Wagner. She is survived by her 11 children: Tom, Kansas City, MO; Mary Carnegie, San Juan Capistrano, CA; John and his wife Cathy, San Francisco, CA; Jane and her husband Mike Stickler, Arvada, CO; Patty and her husband Bill Justice, Littleton, CO; Keenan, Denver, CO; Gerald, New York, NY; Peggy Choate, Lakewood, CO; Laura Dafni, Denver, CO; Phyllis and her husband Ron Reinert, Wheat Ridge, CO; and Brian, Denver, CO. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren and many special nieces and nephews and their extended families.

A Viewing will be held at Newcomers Funeral Home, 901 S. Sheridan at 5:00 PM followed by a Rosary at 7:00 PM on Tuesday, February 5th. Funeral mass will be on Wednesday, February 6th, at 10:00 AM at Sts. Peter and Paul Church, 3900 Pierce St. in Wheat Ridge. Private burial at a later date in Ft. Logan National Cemetery.
