Katie Lilliston

March 2, 1920 — July 23, 2015

Kathryn (Katie) Lilliston, 95, died peacefully in her home in Westminster, Colorado, on July 23, 2015. Her eldest daughter was with her and she had concluded a visit from her son that day. She led a life of remarkable productivity and passion as a daughter, scholar and educator, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Organized, decisive, and committed to getting things done, she believed in always doing one's best. Throughout her life, those who knew her called her a very special person.

The youngest of three children, Kathryn Elizabeth Skow was born on March 2, 1920, in the home of her mother, Anna Moberly Skow and her father, Chris Skow, in Newton, Iowa. She graduated from Coe College on academic scholarship and began teaching high school, then college, in the years following graduation. She married Robert Lilliston, of Oak Park, Illinois, in 1944. They settled in Overland Park, Kansas, where they raised four children. While working and raising her children, Katie earned a master's degree in special education from the University of Kansas.

Her long career with the Shawnee Mission School District encompassed program development and management of several innovative services that helped hundreds of special-needs children. She retired in 1985 as supervisor of programs for multiply-handicapped, homebound and hospitalized, visually impaired, teen-age mothers, and gifted students. She was an active member of the Overland Park Presbyterian Church for decades. She was a member of the Chi Omega sorority and PEO.

Katie is survived by her children, Patricia Lilliston and her husband, Frank Mazon of Denver, Andy Lilliston and his wife, Jane Lilliston, of Dallas, Barbara Lilliston and her husband Tom Fedorek, of New York City, as well as her grandchildren, Melanie Lilliston, Drew Lilliston, Nicholas Fedorek and Elizabeth Fedorek. She was predeceased by her husband and her youngest daughter, Jamie Lilliston Godowns.

Katie will be missed by all who knew and loved her, and remembered with great fondness, admiration, and respect.
