Memorial reception for Kenneth R. Speer (Ken), long-time Golden businessman, will be Saturday, August 18 at the family home from 1-4 PM.
Ken married Phyllis Most from Ogallala, Neb. They started their married life in North Platte, Neb. Their three children, Cynthia, Jim and Mike were born in North Platte. Ken spent ten years with the Union Pacific Railroad and also assisted Phyllis in a dance school business. They sold their home and business and moved to Denver in 1962.
Ken, with his railroad experience, started Transportation Service Center, Inc., a railcar repair and maintenance company involving the A. Coors railcar and trailer fleets. Ken maintained a physical presence with his employees and customers. He was a visionary in shipping devices that limited product loss while in transit. He developed and manufactured a number of these items. He was active with his company for most of his life.
Ken enjoyed hunting, fishing and skiing. Phyllis shared many of Ken's recreational likes and they often participated together. Ken was also an avid reader.
He was preceded in death by his wife Phyllis; his parents Vernon and Lucille; and his son, Jim. Survivors include daughter Dr. Cynthia L. Williams (Speer) and Dr. Eileen M. Forestal; son Michael (Roxanne) Speer; grandchildren Bruno & Andrea Mariani, Joseph Clair & Lauren Williams, Brent W. Benham, Levi & Robyn Huffman, Courtney Speer and Loren Speer; great-grandchildren Rocco, Stella, Ravenna, Madalyn, Blaze and Leo.
Private family graveside services will be held at Arvada Cemetery at a later date.
