Kent Cunningham was born in New York City on November 14, 1952 to William and Mary Cunningham. He lived there for several years until his family moved to Miami, Florida in 1968. He later graduated from Miami Edison Senior High School and also attended Florida State University before serving in the United States Army.
He met his wife Elnora while stationed at Ft. Bragg they were married for thirty-four years until she preceded him in death.
Kent worked at the Glenarm Recreation Center for 8 years until his death on October 25, 2016. He loved his job and interacting with the many people who came to the center. He will be remembered for his sense of humor and his love of playing pranks and friends knew Kent as "Smiling Jack" because of his constant grin.
He was also a theater student and played trombone in the band when he was younger. It's said that Kent also knew and was friendly with members of the award-winning KC and the Sunshine Band but he chose to not join the band because he didn't think he could make money that way. Instead he worked hard for many years and cared deeply for his grandchildren and reveled in making people laugh.
Left to mourn his passing are his sister Roberta Dixon of Miami, Florida (Alonzo); two nephews, Ian and Lance; grandsons Gerry Kelly and Shawn Williams; granddaughter Teria Jackson and great grandson Nehemiah Jackson. Also left to mourn are his aunts, Gloria Mullen, Evelyn McPherson, Dorcas Bain, Brenda Cunningham, and Sandra Cunningham; one uncle Wesley Mullen; along with many cousins, relatives and friends.
"Our family chain is broken,
and life is not the same.
But as God calls us one by one,
our chain will link again...
You are sadly missed, but never forgotten."
