Larry D. Griess, 62, of Aurora, Colorado lost his long, courageous battle with cancer on September 8, 2014.
Larry was the beloved husband of Karen, father of Chad (Susie) and Larry (Jennifer), and grandfather of Nick, Brynlee and Landon. Larry is survived by his parents Dean and Helen Griess, his brother Michael (Larita) Griess, sister-in-law Sally Griess, sister Karla (Mike) Dobbel and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Larry was preceded in death by his brother Danny Griess.
Larry was born in Sioux City, Iowa on July 23, 1952. He moved to Colorado as a child, and graduated from Aurora Central High School in 1970.
Larry met the love of his life, Karen, in 1970, when he first captured the heart of his future father-in-law, Al. Al and Larry were great friends and roping partners, and Al often referred to Larry as the son he never had. Larry followed Al (and Karen) across the country to every rodeo possible and on January 26, 1974, Karen and Larry were married. They welcomed their first son, Chad, on May 19, 1977 and second son Larry on May 11, 1979. Early in their marriage, Karen and Larry lived in Grand Island, Nebraska and then moved to Aurora, Colorado in 1985, where they have resided ever since.
Larry loved the outdoors and roping and riding, which are interests he passed on to both of his boys. Larry loved his family and he adored his grandchildren. Many weekends he could be found helping others or attending his grandchildren's robotics competitions, soccer games and cheerleading events.
Larry and Karen faced many challenges throughout the years but always found a way to get through the tough times together, and were blessed with 40 beautiful years of marriage.
Larry was a wonderful son, husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend to all those who loved him, and he will truly be missed.
