Larry Gene Malmgren was born to Elmer Edwin Malmgren and Erma Mapes Malmgren on July 22, 1935 at Wichita, Kansas and passed away on October 13, 2005 in Fairmount, Nebraska at the age of 70 years, 2 months and 22 days. He was one of 5 children in the family. Larry was married to Lorna Cummings and to them 3 children were born.
Larry was preceded in death by his father Elmer Malmgren; mother Erma Barnhart; stepfather Tommy Barnhart; brothers Don, Francis, Kenny, and Jimmy Malmgren; and great grandson Thomas John Cunningham. He is survived by his 3 children Mary Kahler, Dusty Malmgren, and Michelle Bice; 8 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
Dad worked as a pressman until he retired. He loved to fish and had many stories about the fishing trips he took through the years with his family and friends. He spent many hours working with wood and enjoyed giving his projects away as much as working on them. Working with his flowers, herbs and lawn was another favorite pastime. Whenever a visitor came by he like to show them the latest addition to his flower garden or herb bed. In his early retirement years he enjoyed trail walking and dancing with a special friend until arthritis made it difficult.
Dad loved his family. He was always amazed at how whenever He and Dusty worked around the house his nephews were there to help before even being asked, from doing electrical work to hauling away unneeded furniture. He loved the family picnics, banana bread brought to him, phone calls and visits throughout the years and during the last year as his health gradually declined. He was always eager to tell everyone how close his family was and how they cared about him. Dad made friends wherever he went. He liked to visit with people no matter where he was and became friends with his healthcare workers, exercise group, and neighbors. Dad liked to tease and loved being around his grandchildren and great nieces and nephews.
Your passing Dad will leave a hole in the lives of all those that loved you but we are grateful for the memories of love and laughter you left.
