Laureen G. Rink, 90, died peacefully in her sleep on July 31, 2013.
She was born in Hodgenville, KY to the late Thurman G. Gaddie and Lois V. (Winstead) Gaddie on June 30, 1923. She married Kenneth Hickman in 1943, and had Phylis, their child. Kenneth died in an accident in 1947. Laureen then met and married Fred Rink in 1949 and had Barbara, John, and Sara. They divorced in 1967 and she spent the rest of her life devoted to her family.
Laureen graduated from a business school and went to work as an accomplished stenographer. She had various jobs, but the most noted was when she was subcontracted to the war department,in the engineering service for the army to Oak Ridge, TN. This is where she met Fred. It's is also where there was some secret work being done for the "Manhattan Project" before the war. After marriage, she happily retired as a housewife. Later in life she worked at a Book Warehouse, and retired at the age of 65.
Laureen was a passionate reader. She loved mysteries, biographies, history books, poetry and of course her Bible. Even though she endured many heartaches in her life, her faith always remained strong. She loved all of her family fiercely and was a wonderful mother, grandmother, and of course great grandma!
Laureen is survived by 1 brother; Col. John (Phyllis) Gaddie of San Marcus,TX, by 3 children; Phylis (Frank Guttierez) Hickman of Albuquerque, NM, John (Janis) Rink of Clifton,NY, and Sara (Vince) Porch of Lakewood. She is also survived by 4 grandchildren; Jaclyn (Johnathan) Crowley of Brooklyn,NY, Johnny Rink of Clifton,NY, Anna Spears of Boulder, and Luke Spears of Northglenn. Laureen also has a great granddaugher; Madelyn Crowley of Brooklyn,NY. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Laureen was proceeded in death by her late brother; T.W. Gaddie, her daughter; Barbara Rink, and granddaugher; Tonya Hamilton.
A viewing will be held at Newcomers Funeral Home, August 6th at 901 S. Sheridan Blvd., between 6 to 7PM. Services will be held August 7th at 10AM at the same location.
