Cherished memories of
Laurence John Hannibal
Laurence (Larry) John Hannibal was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on August 14, 1936 to Ethel and John Hannibal. He was the eldest of three children including his sister Delores Banks whom he adored and his brother David Hannibal who preceded him in death. In his adolescent years, Larry had an avid thirst for knowledge and a passion for studying. He also was athletic and particularly enjoyed playing football and baseball.
With his diploma from BOK High School in hand, Larry decided it was time to leave the City of Brotherly Love and set his sights on entering the military. He took a rigorus difficult Airforce entrance exam and, on the same day, found out he passed with a very high score. After graduating from the Airforce technical school, Larry was assigned to the Strategic Air Command in Wichita, Kansas. He was deployed to Europe and enjoyed his time there so much that he contemplated making it a permanent home. After 3 years of dedicated service in the Airforce, he was Honorably Discharged.
Larry met the love of his life, Katherine Jean Jackson in Wichita, Kansas. They were married on June 23, 1956. Together they moved to Denver, Colorado where they raised 6 children; Donna, Michael, Charles, Paula, David and Junetta. Katherine and Larry suffered the loss of two of their wonderful children, brothers Michael and Charles. They have 12 grandchildren that were very special to them Richard, Dana, Decorous, Charles Jr., Kim, Felicia, Coyone, David Jr., Joy, Michael, Melanie and Deshawn as well as many great grandchildren.
After some advanced education, Larry was employed at many different companies throughout his life to take care of his family. Some of those jobs included being a chauffeur, clerk, security guard, fork lift driver, and truck driver. He finally found a job where he could do what he enjoyed most; communicating with people on a daily basis at King Soopers where he eventually retired after a long career.
Larry loved his family more than breath. He was tremendously generous and anyone who met him instantly loved his caring and positive nature. Larry cherished relationships, often striking up conversations with strangers, but he especially treasured time spent talking with family and friends. He was a loving child of God, husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, friend, and coworker and in those roles he impacted many lives. From all those who impacted he will surely be missed.
FOR LARRY:
If your heart is heavy now,
because I've passed away,
I peeked into heaven,
and decided to stay.
My life has been full.
My family made me proud,
expanded and educated,
you can move mountains now!
Don't lengthen my passing,
with undue grief,
because on earth I was yours,
but I always belonged to the Lord.
Your Life was a blessing and your memory a treasure.
You are loved beyond words and missed beyond measure.
Love Always,
Your Sister, DELORES BANKS
