Lavon Alice Rohrig passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on January 8, 2012 at home in Aurora, Colorado from complications of End-Stage Kidney Disease. Born in Flandreau, South Dakota, on April 6, 1936, Lavon was the oldest child (of four) to Jesse and Minnie Smith. She is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Richard "Dick" Rohrig. Her sister, Sheila Smith. Her three children: Keith Rohrig and his wife Jane Warner-Rohrig, Bruce Rohrig and his wife Julie Rohrig, and Kim Baumert and her husband Gary Baumert. Her seven grandchildren: Malia and Garret Rohrig, Brandon, Jamie, and Kelsey Rohrig, and Christopher and Mikaela Baumert. Lavon was welcomed into Heaven by her parents Jesse and Minnie Smith, her brother Keith Smith, and her sister Nyla Farber.
Her early years were spent in various places, eventually graduating from Wheatland High School, Wheatland, North Dakota in 1955. She was very active in High School participating in Band, Glee Club and was Co-Captain of the 1952 North Dakota High School State Champion Women's Basketball Team.
She went to College at Valley City State, North Dakota for one year and went immediately to Argusville, North Dakota to teach. She taught for 6 months in a one room country school and was injured in a severe car accident. She went back home to Wheatland to recover.
She came to Colorado and met Richard in 1958. They were married, August 8, 1958 at Altura Lutheran Church in Aurora, Colorado; later named Bethel Lutheran Church. They moved into a house at 907 Iola St, Aurora, Colorado and started their family. They had three children Keith, Bruce, and Kim.
Lavon had many different jobs throughout her life including; Bus Driver for Aurora Public Schools, Florist and Floral Delivery Driver, Medical Delivery and Pick-Up Driver, and Custodian for Bethel Lutheran Church. She enjoyed Camping, Gardening and Floral Arranging, Vacationing, Visiting Relatives, Raising a family, and the Family Dogs. She was always involved with activities at Bethel Lutheran Church including; Luther League Sponsor, Women of the Church, Alter Guild, Teaching Sunday School, to mention just a few.
Most recently she loved brightening people's days with a card and some Home Made Jam, Puff Ball Donuts, or Flowers. She loved dogs, not only her own, but everyone else's. She may not of known who you where but she knew your dog and was always eager to say hello with a treat and gentle pat on the head or a scratch under the ear.
Lavon will be missed by her Husband, Sister, Children, Grandchildren, Family, Church and all who knew her. She will really miss her special friends Sandy, Jan, and Virginia.
