Lee Tony Garcia , 90, of Lakewood, passed away March 10, 2016.
He was born December 28, 1925 in Windsor, Colorado, the son of Ralph and Delida (Gallegos) Garcia. Lee was raised by his grandparents, Sotero and Manuelita Garcia, on the family ranch in Walsenburg, Colorado.
After eloping in September of 1950 to California, he married Margaret Trujillo on October 31, 1950 in Reno, Nevada. They were married for 64 years.
He was a welder for his entire life. When Lee first moved from California to Colorado, he worked at the Eaton plant working in the missile silos making the body to the missile. Even though completely deaf throughout most of his marriage with Margaret and his family life, Lee could read lips perfectly and raised and supported his family through the last days of his life.
Lee's work ethic and high standards were taught to his children. He would wake early and help his sons with their newspaper routes every morning before work, encouraging them to establish early morning waking habits. His example encourage them to work on the weekends and challenge themselves with different jobs.
Lee enjoyed the outdoors and camping. He particularly enjoyed fishing, especially his annual September ritual of snagging salmon at Green Mountain Reservoir. He also enjoyed scratching lottery tickets with his son Johnny Lee. He also enjoyed riding horses from childhood until he was older and had a soft spot for animals. The family will always remember all of the stories that Lee used to tell when they will children. He was a very devoted father and brother. When Lee was younger, he would walk to school to be the first person to school to light the fire in the wood stove. When he was a young man before he lost his hearing, he played guitar with the Serenaders at many dances and weddings.
