Leila Beverley Schock

May 8, 1927 — September 11, 2013

Leila "Lee" Schock was born Leila Beverley Brown on May 8, 1927 in Medicine Bow Wyoming, the second child of James Aubrey Brown and Jenny Mae Schanck. Her brothers Robert and Jimmy both preceded her in death.
Leila married 3 times. Her first marriage was arranged by her mother to Neil Nelson and she had her daughter, Betty Jo (Keesee) (deceased 1992) during that time. Her second marriage was to the first love of her life, Marion Orville "Tiny" Saathoff (deceased 1963). This marriage brought two daughters, Carol Saathoff (Stockton) and Marian Kay Saathoff, and one son William O. Saathoff. Mother found love and married again in 1965 to Alvin Dale "Al" Schock (deceased 2005) producing one son Jimmy Dale Schock.
Mother had a colorful early life growing up during the depression and WWII. She was well known in her family to be full of "piss and vinegar" a phrase she didn't seem to mind. She raised orphaned lambs and had a pet ground hog as a child. During her first marriage she lived in a converted railroad car and in a house tent with a wood stove during winter months in Wyoming during her second marriage. When she spoke about it she said she didn't care for the railroad car, but a lot of people were living in tents near the mines at the time; she didn't have to haul water from too far away and her tent had a wooden floor in it so she said she was doing good.
Until Betty was of school age the family lived at the oil rigs where Dad was working. Once Betty started school we moved into town and I remember Mom cooking Thanksgiving dinner with all the fixings, feeding us three girls, then loading up everything and taking it to the oil rig where Dad was working. Dad and the crew would take turns coming to the trailer to eat their holiday dinner. Mom was a diamond in the rough with a very caring heart.
Although Mother left school after the 8th grade to get married she believed in education and self-reliance stressing those qualities to her girls while making sure all her kids could cook, clean and knew how to put in a day's work. Mom took great pride in her children and considered us her greatest accomplishment.
