Leola Elite, 80, of Aurora, passed away January 3, 2016.
Leola Moore Elite of Aurora, Colorado, passed away on January 3, 2016. She was born June 17, 1935 in Forest, Mississippi, the third daughter of Julia Leola and Wesley Emory Moore who preceded her in death. She gave her life to Christ at age 9 and was baptized at Concord Missionary Baptist Church in Forest, Mississippi.
She grew up in Decatur, Illinois and graduated from Stephen Decatur High School in 1953. She moved to Denver in 1964 and was a foster parent for many years. She retired from Mountain Bell Telecommunications in 1994 after 20 years of service.
She loved to travel and enjoyed long road trips across the country. After retirement, one of her greatest passions was traveling with friends and family to Black Hawk and Central City. Her favorite pastime was working puzzles, especially jigsaw and crossword puzzles.
Leola was a very caring and generous person who always remembered and acknowledged special days in others' lives. Her previous home in Park Hill was known as the family and neighborhood "gathering place" for several years.
Leola is survived by her children, Paul Steven Bland, Dr. Marcus Harrison Bland and Julia Lynette Lomax; six grandchildren, Brandon Harrison Bland, Eric David Lomax, Marcus David Eldon Lomax, Nakia Miette Lomax, and Nikole Lynette Pierce; six great-grandchildren, Nevaeha, Nyanna, Rilynn, Rashod, Roshie and Zakyi; and five sisters, Robertha Willingham, Grace Emily Moore, Kyra Cecilia Canty, Lynda Jeanette Moore, and Diane Renee (Minister Woodrow) Lovell, Sr.; three brothers, David (Penelope) Moore, Wesley Emory Moore, II, and John Wallace (Genile) Moore.
She is preceded in death by her daughters, Sharon June Bland and Jean Mary Bland; sisters, Mary Jean Winfield, Elisabeth Carol Maurita Hempstead, and Sharon Moore; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Leola is dearly loved and will always remain in our hearts.
