Celebration of Life
Leonard O. Pleis, 92, of Aurora, Colorado passed away Thursday, May 12, 2011 at 12:30 a.m. He was married for 69 years, and survived by his wife Hazel and a very large and loving family.
Leonard was born in the farm house of his parents on February 26, 1919 near Fairbury, Nebraska. Hazel and Leonard were married, December 6, 1941; the day before Pearl Harbor. Shortly thereafter, he was called to serve in WWII.
Upon discharge Leonard and his family returned to Lincoln, Nebraska, where he trained under the GI Bill to become an Optician. He worked for Bausch and Lomb and Rite Style Optical in Lincoln. In 1966 he moved to Aurora, Colorado and worked for Fitzsimmons Army Hospital Optical Lab until he retired in 1982.
Leonard was an active member of The First United Methodist Church in Aurora. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 23.
He loved to sing and had an excellent ear for music. He won an accordion for having perfect attendance at school and continued playing the accordion for his five children, 8 grandchildren and six great grandchildren. He also enjoyed gardening, wood working, fishing and camping. His first priority was always family!
He will always be loved and missed!
