LeRoy was born to John and Betsy Johnson, April 20, 1929 in rural South Dakota (near Sioux Falls) and entered into rest May 13, 2012 in Phoenix, AZ.
He is preceded in death by his brothers Albert, Vernon, Woody and his sister Evelyn Kruse.
He is survived by his wife, Sandra Johnson; his children Greg (wife Eva); Jeff (wife Linda); Steve (wife Debi); Sandy Mattics (husband Louis); Kathy Fritz (husband Lynn); Diane Jarmillo (husband Dave) and their mother Margaret Johnson; grandchildren Paul, Robin, Leslie, Vanessa, Christopher, Andy, Aimee, Angela, Candace, Heather, Melissa, and Riley; great-grandchildren Alisha, Amanda, Austin, Makayla, Cody, Jordan and Zoe; great-great grandsons Zach, Jacob, Gino, Michael, Gabe and another in July; his sister Lorraine Robinson and his brother Glenn Johnson, as well as many nieces and nephews.
LeRoy mostly known as Roy was in the Marines, Army and selected secret government covert operations. He held Bachelor degrees in both mechanical and engineering. He a pilot, flight instructor and a master carpenter. Early on his passion was flying in later years, his passion was boating at Lake Powell in his cabin cruiser "Tempest Fugit" with his wife Sandy. He could take a piece of wood and make it into a master piece. In his later years when he was confined to the wheel chair, he loved watching the animals and the hummingbirds outside their kitchen windows.
LeRoy was a softly spoken man, yet lived his life out loud as an adventure every day. He loved flying, boating, woodworking and so many other outdoor sports and activities. More than anything else he loved his family.
