Les Hendry

Leslie "Jock" Hendry was born in St.Paul, MN on November 13,1925. He died June 18, 2014 at the age of 88 after a long illness.

Les was born to John and Alice Hendry. His father was a golf pro who had immigrated from Scotland to the United States after World War I. He had one bother, Gordon. Les grew up in the St. Paul area and attended the University of Minnesota. He worked at a variety of seasonal jobs for the forest service before completing his Bachelors degree in Forestry in 1947. He was employed with the US Forest Service for 34 years, spending the majority of his career as a forester in the Black Hills of South Dakota and on the Pike National Forest of Colorado, before retiring in 1980 after serving as Director of Administration Management at the Rocky Mountain Regional Office.

He married Shirley Pinochi, whom he met while both were students at University of Minnesota, in January, 1949 in St. Paul, MN. Their first home was in the Black Hills at Custer. Two of their sons, Gregg and Jeff, were born while they were living in the Hills. Another son, John, was born in Colorado Springs.

Following his retirement, Jock and Shirley enjoyed travel around the United States and abroad. Both enjoyed volunteering for a variety of organizations. Les's hobbies included golf, woodworking (especially furniture items), and travel.

Jock is survived by and will be greatly missed by his wife of 65 years, Shirley; sons Gregg (Billie) and John (Linda); five grandsons: Adam, Scott, Jake (Hannah), Ben and Zack; his brother's family: Sue, Barbara (Dave) and Doug (Judie); and niece, Tracy. He is preceded in death by his parents, brother, and son, Jeff.

A memorial service will be held at Christ Congregational Church, 2500 S Sheridan Blvd, Denver, CO at 10:30 AM on July 12, 2014.
