In 1944 Jean and her mother moved to Colorado to be with her father who was at Fitzsimmons Hospital with tuberculosis, which he contracted while in Europe during World War II. The family moved to Kansas in 1951 and returned to Colorado in 1953. She then grew up in Strasburg, Colorado and graduated from high school there in 1960. In 1979 she went to work for the Aurora Public Schools, where she worked until she retired in 1999.
Jean met her husband Dale at the age of 14 at a baseball game in Bennett, Colorado and it was love at first sight. The two dated through high school and in college and married on December 12, 1963. They had two daughters, Christine and Amy and built a life together in Aurora, Colorado.
Jean had five grandchildren: Tom, Kayla, Kevin, Kyle and Nicholas with whom she delighted in spending time.
