Lewis Edward Dorough

Lewis Edward Dorough was born on July 7, 1932 in Texarkana, Texas and departed this life peacefully on August 4, 2013 in Littleton, Colorado. He was 81 years and 28 days old. Lewis was the third of four children born to Robert Lee Dorough and Alma Audrey Lewis Dorough. The Dorough family had strong family roots in Arkansas post-Civil War and Georgia pre-Civil War.

Lewis grew up in Plainview and Amarillo, Texas, graduating from Amarillo High School in 1951 and later from Amarillo Junior College in 1953. He enlisted in the Army in 1953. After basic training, he was assigned to Alaska where he was a fire fighter. Leaving the Army in 1955, he went to Texas Tech on the GI Bill and graduated in 1957 with a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics.

He was hired by Douglas Aircraft Company in 1957, moving to California to begin a long career in aerospace engineering. In 1962 he moved to Aerospace Corporation and met his bride to be. Lewis and Linda G. Tipon were married on September 28, 1963 and were just 8 weeks shy of their 50th wedding anniversary. Together they had three daughters. They moved to Denver in 1978 to work for Martin Marietta (now Lockheed Martin). In 1984 the company moved them to Virginia and then back to Denver in 1990. Lewis took early retirement from Lockheed in 1993 and went to work for the Bureau of Land Management writing programs to track wild horses. He retired from the work force in 2000.

Lewis enjoyed music of all types (especially the Jazz artistry of his older brother Bob), playing and watching sports, playing Bridge, solving puzzles and spending time with family and friends. He had a reputation as a kind and gentle man and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Lewis was preceded in death by his parents and his sister AJ Dorough Hess. He is survived by his wife Linda Dorough of Littleton; daughters Lisa Fleury (husband Jim)Woodbridge, Virginia; Christine Johnson (husband Tom) of Lakewood; and Julie Dorough (husband Richard Sandoval) of Denver; two brothers Robert Lrod (Bob) of Mt. Bethel, Pennsylvania and Aaron Gregory of Fort Worth, Texas. He is also survived by six grandchildren, Christian, Marc and Dominique Fleury; Emma and Sara Johnson and Etta Sandoval.
