Lila Mae Horsman

Lila Mae Horsman, age 95, of Golden, Colorado, passed away on Friday, April 17, 2026. She was born February 25, 1931 to Henry and Mollie Matthes of Monroe, Michigan. Lila was the only girl of their four children. Lila graduated from Ida High School as Valedictorian in 1950. She was active in the Glee Club and was a majorette in the school’s marching band. Lila also wrote the words for the Alma Mater song for Ida High School.

Lila taught Sunday school at her home church, East Ida Lutheran Church and after confirmation became a member of the Walther League.

After graduation she was employed in the office of Stadelmans Furniture Store and part-time at Paul’s Bakery in Monroe, Michigan.

Lila married Eugene A. Horsman in May of 1952 and moved to Ann Arbor, Michigan. While there, she taught Sunday school at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and was employed in the office of Woolworths 5 & 10.

Lila and Gene later moved to Wichita, Kansas. It was there she taught Sunday school and was in the choir at Trinity Lutheran Church.

Lila and Gene finally moved to Golden, Colorado and joined Concordia Lutheran Church. Lila was active as a Sunday school teacher, joined the choir, started the first youth group, and taught confirmation via sign language to Kristie Jansen.

Before retirement, Lila was employed at Neusteter’s and Montaldo’s Clothing Store.

Lila enjoyed the outdoors, animals, and reading mystery and murder novels.

Lila was predeceased by her husband, Gene, in 2017, and previous to that her parents and three brothers. She is survived by four sisters-in-law, cousins, nieces and nephews.

There will be a memorial celebration for Lila held on Tuesday, May 5, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. at Concordia Lutheran Church, 13371 W. Alameda Pkwy, Lakewood, Colorado. Lila’s remains will be interred in Golden Cemetery, Golden, Colorado. The family requests any memorial contributions be given in Lila’s name to Concordia Lutheran Church, Lakewood, Colorado
