Linda Jo Becker of Arvada passed away on Saturday, October 29, 2016 at the age of 67.
She was born on June 22, 1949 in Trinidad, Colorado, the daughter of Manuel and Margaret (Giamarvo) Gurule. She graduated from Trinidad High School.
After graduation and some time in college, Linda moved to California where she met and married Larry Becker in 1968. Linda gave birth to their son Jason while in California and enjoyed a strong bond with him throughout the years. For over a decade Linda worked for two cities within California, first for the City of Los Angeles's Wilshire Police Department in the Detective Division and later for the City of Van Nuys in the Building and Safety Department. Upon moving back to Colorado, Linda continued her city employment. She started working for the City and County of Denver with the Denver Fire Department in Payroll. Following that she worked in Human Resources for the Denver Police Department and the Denver Sheriff's Department until she retired.
Linda loved to travel and visited a number of the fifty states and several countries. Upon retiring, she continued her travels and reconnected with friends she hadn't seen in a while. Among her other hobbies, she enjoyed cars. She enjoyed car shows, car races and "Cruisin'" nights in Golden. For many years she was an integral part of the fire department's Cool Times Hot Cars car show benefiting Children's Hospital. When not traveling and participating in auto activities, Linda stayed busy with family and friends, particularly with her son Jason. She was seldom without a pet and enjoyed both dogs and cats, most recently Boo and Boggie. She loved to garden and spent hours working in her yard: designing, planting, rearranging, embellishing the flowers and decorating her patio. Most recently Linda became a volunteer at the Arvada Food Bank.
Linda was preceded in death by her mother and father. She is survived by her son Jason; sister Barbara Roy and brother-in-law Virgil; her sister Susan Gurule, nieces Lesley Abeyta-Hertzing, Janine Abeyta and nephew Mario Abeyta, Jr. She also left behind several great nieces and nephews.
