Mabel Lee Harrison (Hammond), born 1926 in Smyth County, VA, passed away Saturday, June 28, 2014 in Denver, CO surrounded by her family.
Mae was born and raised in Saltville, VA. Despite the challenges of the Depression and small town life, she moved to Washington, DC and became a successful bank manager at Perpetual Building Association.
In her later years she loved traveling abroad, garden club, the Red Hat Society and Daughters of the Confederacy. She was the widow of Dr. Mark Harrison, Ph.D. Surviving family include her son, John Gilbert (Anita Gilbert), grandchildren Chelsea Ronan (Sean Ronan), Moriah Gilbert, and great grandchild Kate Ronan.
Visitation is on Tuesday, July 8, 2014 at the John M. Oakey and Son Funeral Home, 305 Roanoke Blvd., Salem, VA 24153. Graveside Service immediately following at the East Hill Cemetery in Salem, VA.
