Mamie L. Wilson, 82, of Aurora, passed away January 17, 2015.
Mamie Louise Wilson AKA Sweet was born October 18th 1932 in Columbus, Mississippi to the proud parents of Eugene and Daisy (Booker) Wilson. Mamie was one of seven siblings coming up, and was from a very close knit family whom she loved dearly. Mamie was a fantastic singer. At a young age, she was part of a forming a Gospel group called the Ever Ready Singers. They came up with the name because they were always ready to venture to different churches and go sing songs of God. She was also a devoted member of 7th Ave. Baptist Church. For many years, she served as the Church Secretary and Treasurer.
Mamie received a job as a cook and later became a chef and indeed an, excellent one at that. She did this for many years and later decided to change courses in her career and become a Social Worker. She loved this job and stayed in this field of work until her health started to decline and forced her to retire.
Every Thanksgiving, she would cook up a slew of food and invite her entire neighborhood to feast and that is exactly what they did. She was well loved by everyone whom knew her. Mamie decided to move to Denver, Colorado in 2004 to be closer to her family. Her family in Denver was more than happy to receive her and her down home cooking with open arms. Mamie's family loved her and will miss her dearly.
Mamie is preceded in death by her mother Daisy Violet Wilson; father Eugene Wilson; sister Annie Will Armstrong; brother James Gregory Wilson; grandparents and close relatives.
Mamie leaves behind three sisters; Sarah E. (Billy) Gipson, Daisy Tye and Georgia along with one brother Harry A. Wilson; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
God rest her soul.
