Mara Kopun Shuput passed away on April 11, 2012 with family present. She was a resident of Aurora, Colorado and a former longtime resident of Omaha, Nebraska. Mara was born on August 8, 1920, in Slabinja, Yugoslavia to Tomislav and Angelina (Jaksic) Kopun. Mara married Djuro (George) Shuput in Å odolovci, Yugoslavia on June 4, 1939. Two children were born before World War II separated Djuro and Mara for nearly 10 years. Mara and children immigrated to Omaha in 1954. A third child was born in 1956. Mara worked for the Metropolitan Utilities District for 26 years. After retiring in 1987, she moved to Aurora, Colorado. Mara enjoyed gardening, baking, crocheting, and long walks. Mara was a lifelong member of the Serbian Orthodox Church. Mara was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sisters Slavka, Cveta, Soka, Danica, and brother Stojan. Survivors include son Monte (Karen) Shuput, daughters Jelena (Bob) Fritsch and Angelina (George) Pryich, brother Savo (Kristina) Kopun, cousin, Milka, grandchildren Larry Shuput, Jovan (Jen) Fritsch, Allen (Kristina) Shuput, Connie (Sacha) Bambadji, and great-grandchildren Sarah, Zachary, Jackson, Carson, and Ayva Belle. Survivors also include nephew Predrag (Judy) Kopun and nieces Tatjana (John) Sutej, Cica, Gordana, Ljiljana, and their families and many friends. The family thanks Novita, Ruthie, Sri, and Winnie for their care and devotion.
A Trisagion service will be held on Monday, April 16 at 7:00 pm at St. Catherine Greek Orthodox Church in Greenwood Village, Colorado.
The funeral service will be held, at a later date, in Omaha, Nebraska at St. Nicholas Serbian Orthodox Church--please check back for updated information.
