She was born October 16, 1918, in Denver, Colorado to Clarence and Caroline (Polhamus) Bradt. Her father was a ranch owner in the Snake River area of Colorado. Her mother was a schoolteacher until her death when Margaret was 12. Margaret lived on the ranch until she was 22.

She graduated from high school in Fort Collins, Colorado. She attended college at Colorado State University where she was one of the only females in her geology courses. She worked in a photographer's studio where she colorized pictures by hand in Denver and later moved to Utah, where she met Thomas Haddican. They were married in Wyoming and they had a daughter, Mary Kay.

She was an active member of the Denver First Wesleyan Church, where she managed the library for many years. She worked at Presbyterian Hospital in Denver for many years sterilizing and organizing surgical trays.

Her interests included family, gardening, sewing, knitting, ceramics, animals and reading. She was a great cook and often baked for church events and holidays.
