Marguerite Louise "Marge" Pryor, 93, of Lakewood, CO, passed away July 21, 2014, at home. She was born in Washington, PA, January 26, 1921, to Italian immigrant parents, Domenico and Catherine (DeSimone) Mazzei.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Stephen Pryor, and infant daughter, Deborah Susan Pryor, twin sister of Cynthia. Marge, the youngest of 10 children, was also preceded in death by her five brothers and four sisters and son-in-law, Fred Siems.
She is survived by four daughters, Cindy Thompson, Kansas City, MO; Pam Pryor, Arlington, VA; Kym (Shawn) Morrissey, Indian Hills, CO; Ami (Bill) Dillard, Yukon, OK. In addition are five grandchildren, Valon Thompson, Kansas City, MO; Amanda (Dustin) Hogan, Bourbonnais, IL; Mary Siems, Bethany, OK; Mark Siems, Norman, OK; Krista (Aaron) Bruton, Mustang, OK.
Marge was an active member of the Italian Christian Church of North America in Washington, PA, until she moved to Lakewood in 1956. She then began attending the Lakewood Church of the Nazarene. There, she was a Sunday school teacher for grade-schoolers for many years. She was a youth sponsor as well. She also volunteered at the Mothers of Pre-school Students program. Marge was a familiar face in the church kitchen, planning and cooking for innumerable events.
The Lakewood Church of the Nazarene awarded her the Mother of the Year Award, May 14, 1972.
She received the Distinguished Service Award from the Nazarene World Missions Society in 1996 for her many hours of faithful service behind the scenes: "in the church kitchen, in Sunday school, and wherever needed."
After graduating from Trinity High School (Washington, PA) in 1938, Marge went to work packing glassware at Tygart Valley Glass Company. In Lakewood, Marge worked as a server and then a manager at Mr. Donut. She retired from the doughnut shop after 20 years of service.
Marge's significant life events were living through the Depression; eloping on February 2, 1946, to marry her husband, Steve; giving birth to twin girls; traveling to places like New York, Washington, D.C., Alaska, Disneyland and Disney World.
Marge's interests included attending Bible Studies, reading, playing Scrabble, and spending time with her cat, Spyder.
Being a part of a large, fun-loving Italian family gave Marge her delightful sense of humor. Her warm smile will be one of the things people most remember about her. Marge had the gift of hospitality and was ready with a cup of coffee or a slice of pie for the many friends and neighbors who were always welcome in her home. She was most noted for her Italian cooking and coconut and chocolate cream pies.
Marge's advice to young people is, "Listen to adults who have more experience than you do. Always put God first in your lives."
Marge was a godly woman who lived her life for her Savior. When she was asked by her daughters what she wanted for her birthday or for Christmas, she would say, "Nothing. I only want you to grow up to be good Christians."
