Marianne MacMain Thornton of Morrison, Colorado, passed away on June 13, 2013. She was born on November 21, 1933, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, daughter of Walter W. and Olive V. MacMain. She graduated from Mount Lebanon High School, and received a BA degree in English from Bucknell University, where she was a member of Kappa Delta.
She returned to Mount Lebanon High School to teach English for two years before relocating with her husband Bill to Kansas City. There she volunteered with various dance and theatre groups, tutored English, and volunteered at her daughter's schools. She and Bill moved to Colorado in 1981. They celebrated their 56th anniversary in August, before his death last Fall.
Music was always important to Marianne; she was an accomplished pianist and sang in church choirs all her life.
She is preceded in death by an infant brother and her parents. She is survived by her daughter Laurie and son-in-law Ernie Stefely of Arvada, her sister-in-law Martha Pat and husband Brian Upp of Oklahoma City. Also surviving are nieces Sherri Price and Patti Hoover Lane of Oklahoma City and Rachel Brooks of Norman, Oklahoma; and many friends in Denver and across the country.

Memorial service to be held at Monday, June 24 at 6:30pm at Columbine United Church at 6375 S. Platte Canyon Road, Littleton, CO 80123 and burial will be at Fort Logan National Cemetery.
