Marilyn Wyatt Eulogy

Marilyn, our mother, was born on February 12, 1928 in Prairie Township, Ohio. She was a farm girl who attended Wooster High School and was involved in many extracurricular activities. She participated in the Glee Club, the Girl Reserves, Operetta ,and the swim team. In her senior year she was a football queen attendant ,on the prom committee and on the all star swim team and life saving team and reigned as prom queen. She was also a very good ice skater which she continued to enjoy after moving to Colorado.

She graduated in 1946 and shortly thereafter moved to Denver Colorado to be with her sister, Maxine. One of the first jobs she got after moving to Denver was at Montgomery Wards Department store. She worked on the eighth floor where she delivered inventory on roller skates. Following that job, she worked at the Samsonite Luggage plant on the assembly line. It was there that she met her future husband, our father, Bruce Wyatt. He noticed her stunning red hair one day in the lunchroom and said to her, "Hey Red, what's shakin'? Mind if I sit down here?" And that was the beginning of their beautiful love story. They dated for three months, married on July 15th, 1951 and were inseparable for the next 60 years. Marilyn had five children. She and Bruce enjoyed taking the family ice skating and sledding in Evergreen Colorado during the winter and enjoyed many family suppers along the Platte River in the mountains during the summer. A cute beagle puppy named Snoopy became part of the family and was a constant companion on the many Wyatt adventures. During Spring break and vacations the family took to the road and visited sites around the country including Mt. Rushmore, the Four Corners and the Grand Canyon. Camping in the Colorado Rockies was a particular family favorite.

Mom was a great cook, and we loved her Sunday roasts, fried chicken, spare ribs and Swiss steak just to name a few of the many dishes all seven of us enjoyed as we ate dinner at the kitchen table every night. We looked forward to picking cherries from the backyard trees so we could enjoy her famous cherry pie. Over the years we celebrated many family birthdays with her delicious homemade cakes.

She also used her cooking skills to prepare weekly meals for family night at church. She and Dad particularly enjoyed attending the Bethel series Bible study together. Mom always dressed us up for Sunday School, but especially for Easter: Easter hats and white gloves for the girls and suits for the boys. Every Fall she made certain all five of us had our school clothes, and this is where her depression era thriftiness really served her family well.

No matter what challenges we faced, she was always proud of us and made each one of us feel special. We were blessed to have such a wonderful mother and grandmother who was so dedicated to her family, which grew to include seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Mom, may your beautiful spirit rest in peace knowing that you brought love and joy into our lives. We love you. Godspeed.
