Marj Reinhardt passed away at the Aurora Medical Center on Friday, April 3rd, at the age of 83. She was born July 5, 1942, in Hoisington, Kansas, as the second child of Alvina and Homer Eurich. When her father Homer died in an explosion, Marj was only 6 weeks old. Her mother Alvina then moved with the girls to the family farm with Alvina’s parents, William and Lydia Karst. Their language of choice was German until Alvina met and remarried Calvin Templeton, a soldier from West Virginia who had been stationed at Walker Air Force Base in Kansas. Calvin was a model stepfather, graciously raising both girls as his own. The family enjoyed country living until the two girls were of school age, when the family then moved into the town of Russell, Kansas. The family enjoyed the birth of another sister, Diana, and then later, through adoption, the girls’ cousin Alan became their baby brother. Marj and her sister LoAnn were only one grade apart in school; both were active in many school activities, including orchestra, band, cheerleading, speech, and debate and both girls graduated near the top of their respective classes.
Marj married her high school sweetheart, Gerald Reinhardt, and two children (Rhonda and Ricky) were born to that union. When Gerald graduated from college in 1965, the family moved to Denver where he worked as an accountant at IBM and Marj began her lifelong career in the legal field. After Gerald’s death in 1972, Marj remained in the Denver area, as a single parent and sole breadwinner for the family.
In her younger years, Marj enjoyed snow and water skiing, horseback riding, scuba diving, and bowling. Later, after husband Robert’s death, Marj focused on obtaining her college degree, ultimately graduating magna cum laude from Regis University with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, at the age of 50.
In 1997, and after 30 years as legal secretary at the DeLaney Law Firm, Marj moved to California to live with her daughter Rhonda, while acting as nanny for her newborn grandson Jason. While there, when Jason napped, Marj enjoyed tole painting and crafts. Through the years, on many occasions, she made the comment that her year in California as a nanny had been the very best year of her life! When she moved back to the Aurora area, she obtained her paralegal certification while working at both the DeLaney and Gerash Law Firms. For a short while, Marj even worked part time as a Colorado Real Estate Agent and periodically free lanced for many Denver area attorneys.
Daughter Rhonda and grandson Jason moved back to Colorado and, in 2002, the three of them made their permanent home in Aurora. Her son Ricky (Beth) blessed her with two additional grandchildren, Raschelle and Jeremiah. Marj relished whatever time she was able to spend with her grandkids!
Marj enjoyed various church activities including Angel Tree, the OCC “shoebox” ministry, and other miscellaneous church activities. She enjoyed cooking, watching movies and attending live theatre. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family, playing cards and board games, and cherished the numerous family vacations.
Marj is survived by daughter Rhonda and son Ricky, three grandchildren: Jason, Raschelle and Jeremiah, and her brother Alan, along with various nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents Homer Eurich, Alvina and Calvin Templeton, her husbands, and sisters Diana Brown and LoAnn Sechtem.
A celebration of life will be held for her on Tuesday, April 14th, 1:00pm at Faith Presbyterian Church, 11373 E. Alameda Ave., Aurora, CO.
