Mark T. Henderson

Mark Henderson, 76, of Aurora, Colorado, passed away on August 15, 2026, after a long journey with Alzheimer’s dementia. He was born on August 10, 1950, in Berwyn, Illinois to Chuck and Florence Henderson, and grew up in Flossmoor. His family then relocated to Littleton, CO in 1970. In 1981, Mark moved to California, beginning a life filled with family, education, service, and a deep appreciation for the outdoors.

Mark attended the University of Northern Colorado, where he earned a master’s degree in Speech Pathology. He later earned an additional master’s degree in School Administration from the University of La Verne in California. With his extensive education, he dedicated over 30 years to Speech Pathology, working with elementary school students in San Bernardino County. Over the years, Mark and his family called several places home, including Anaheim, Garden Grove, and Corona, California. Then retired to Los Lunas, New Mexico.

Mark had a lifelong love of the outdoors and adventure. He was an avid camper, sailor, fisherman, and photographer. Some of his family's most treasured memories were the summer road trips they took as a family to many of the National Parks throughout the Western United States. He loved exploring new places and sharing those experiences with the people he loved.

Family and community were at the heart of Mark's life. He was actively involved in Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, and enjoyed coaching Little League alongside his two sons. In Los Lunas, he found great enjoyment in woodworking in his home workshop. He also loved swimming and was proud to compete in the New Mexico Senior Olympics, where he earned medals.

Mark believed strongly in giving back to his community. He served on the Vestry at St. John the Baptist Episcopal Church in Corona, California. Through the church he volunteered at God’s Kitchen and the Food Pantry. One of his most meaningful volunteer experiences was with Oasis Lifelong Adventures in Albuquerque, New Mexico, where he assisted and tutored elementary school students in reading. He also served on numerous committees at Jubilee at Los Lunas where they resided. Mark gave his time generously, and helping others was simply part of who he was.

Above all, Mark was devoted to his family. He is survived by his beloved wife of 44 years, Jan Duffy Henderson; his sons, Cody Henderson (Calli) of Orange, California, and Logan Henderson (Lindsey) of Aurora, CO: and his grandchildren, Sawyer, Nellie, Emery, and Kennedy Henderson. He is also survived by his brother, Paul Henderson (Maxine) of Easton, Pennsylvania; his sister, Amy Morales (Robert) of Orange, California; sisters-in-law Dianne Peters (Dave) of Kent, Ohio, and Lisa Rocks (Bill) of Red Lion, Pennsylvania; and other nieces and nephews

Mark was preceded in death by his parents, Chuck and Florence Henderson.

Mark will be remembered for his adventurous spirit, his love of the outdoors, his willingness to serve others, and, most of all, his devotion to his family. The many lives he touched through his family, friendships, church, volunteer work, and community service are a lasting part of his legacy.

A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers or memorial gifts, the family requests that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association in Mark’s memory.
