Listen to Obituary

Mark Reid Stanton, known lovingly to his family as "Marky," passed away suddenly on March 12, 2026, at the age of 74. He was a longtime resident of Lakewood, Colorado, originally born on November 8, 1951, in Pennsylvania.

Mark was a man of great intellect. He earned his Doctorate of Professional Degree in Biology and had a long career with the USGS. Proudly embracing his role as a lifelong student, he made sure every one of his siblings received a copy of his 500-page thesis, whether they asked for it or not. His expertise took him across the country with the United States Geological Survey, where he conducted field testing and training.

Though Mark was a private person by nature, he had good friends and family. He was a devoted Denver Broncos fan, never missing a chance to cheer on his team. In his earlier days, he was an avid drummer. He loved camping and hiking with friends, family get-togethers, and traveling whenever he could. In recent years, he enjoyed escaping Colorado winters at his place in Florida. Through it all, he made a point to stay connected with the people who mattered most.

Mark is survived by his brothers, Michael Stanton and Steve Stanton (Lisa); sisters, Kim Thornton and Michelle Hall (Steve); and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members who loved him dearly. He was preceded in death by his mother, Joan Stanton; his sister, Paulette Olson; and his brother, James Geising.

A private gathering will be held for family and close friends.

We will miss you, my brother, and keep you close in our memory. Love, your brothers and sisters.
