Martha Christine (Delpha Peterson) Stevens, age 90, was born July 27, 1922 in Loomis, Nebraska. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Carl R. Stevens; her son, James R. Stevens; her daughter, Marlys K. Brewer; her son-in-law, Bradford T. Brewer; and her granddaughter, Amanda K. Brewer.
Martha was born to Alfred J. Peterson and Amanda C. Peterson and had one sister, Alma Helen Fischer and her brother-in-law Bob Fischer. Born and raised in the Loomis and Bertrand areas of Nebraska, Martha and her sister eventually moved to Denver, CO after graduating from Bertrand High School. As they grew into beautiful young ladies, Martha met her future husband at a VFW dance, eventually becoming engaged and had a beautiful wedding with her sister on May 15, 1948.
Martha raised her two children while being an immaculate homemaker and a loving wife in the Barnum area of Denver. She was a very loving, caring and dedicated person to her children at all times and only went to work outside the home part-time at Montgomery Ward's on south Broadway after her children were in junior and high schools. Martha remained devoted to her family while becoming a dedicated and reliable employee for Ward's. Martha retired from Ward's prior to the store closing and had the opportunity to travel to several places with Carl (Richard). They traveled to Europe, Hawaii, Canada, New York City, Washington, D.C., and various other states within the U.S., and they took a cruise ship to the Panama Canal, Alaska, Mexico and other memorable places.
Martha always enjoyed spending her time in the kitchen, whether it was baking cookies and cakes, preparing dinners, fixing lunches, ironing clothes, reading the paper or watching her favorite TV shows, including "Judge Judy." Going out for dinner was always a treat for Martha and a much-favorite past time was looking at and organizing her photos.
One of Martha's favorite sports was watching her son's stock car and sportsman car racing. Racing started at Englewood Speedway with car #26 racing on the figure 8's paved track and then transitioned to Erie Speedway where car #56 raced on the dirt to eventually a paved oval track. Martha was definitely a devoted racing fan.
Martha C. Stevens; a wife, mother, and grandmother is going to be very missed by her beloved husband and family. We love her deeply. Rest In Peace and Walk In Heaven. Amen.
