Martha Ruth Harris

Martha Ruth (Wright) Harris, 91, of Aurora, Colorado, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, October 19, 2025, of heart failure, with her beloved husband and companion of 55 years, Coy Bruce Harris, by her side.

Born in Columbus, Mississippi, to the late William and Ester Wright, Martha began her journey on January 14, 1934. She married and later divorced the late A. W. Langford in Mississippi. Leaving her family behind, she relocated to Aurora in 1969.

Martha’s greatest joy was found in serving others. She began her career in food service at the Woolco Department Store’s Red Grill, where she met Bruce Harris, then a sporting goods regional department manager for the store. Their connection blossomed into a lifelong loving partnership beginning in 1970.

Her true calling, however, came when she opened her home to provide daycare, a vocation she embraced for over 30 years. Martha's warmth, dedication, and nurturing spirit earned her the admiration and affection from countless families. She left a profound impact on the lives of those she served, many of whom remained close throughout her life. After retiring from daycare, she continued to serve children through her work in the local elementary school cafeteria.

Known for her culinary talents, Martha could whip up a meal in no time. Bruce and Martha loved to host gatherings, from festive Christmas parties in their basement bar with country music blaring to summer BBQs in the backyard, surrounded by neighbors, friends, and children. Her home was always a place of warmth and laughter.

Although Martha wasn’t naturally an outdoors person, she embraced it wholeheartedly with Bruce. They spent countless weekends camping, boating, and hiking. She read romance novels while Bruce fished. Martha couldn't swim so she didn’t water ski, but she did learn to snow ski. Bruce and Martha hiked many trails as they explored. Their favorite destinations included Yellowstone and the Black Hills of South Dakota.

Martha is survived by her devoted husband, Coy Bruce Harris; her children Michael Langford, Carol Jolly, Tammie Moore, Lisa Bunch; and stepdaughter Kimberley Weeks. She was preceded in death by her children Danny Langford, Brenda Sue Key, Barry Langford, Randy Langford, and stepdaughter Deanna Harris. She also joins her parents and siblings—William, Louis, Lorie, Nancy, Leonard, and Maggie—in eternal rest.
