Martin Edward Herlands died February 24, 2013, in Denver after a long battle with frontotemporal dementia. Born July 25, 1936, he was the son of the late Nathan and Rose (Stahl) Herlands. He was born and raised in the Bronx and spent most of his adult life in the Albany region. A Navy veteran, he graduated from SUNY Cortland and received a Master's degree from the Ohio University. He retired from the University of Albany where he worked for over 30 years as an academic advisor. He also spent many years as a softball coach for the College of St. Rose and the Latham Lassies.
Survivors include his daughters Susan Herlands Holland of Albany, Natalie (Rory) Witzel of Denver, Laura Herlands of Denver, Julie Herlands (Vincent Wishrad) of Falls Church, VA; grandchildren Elizabeth Holland, Ethan and Alec Witzel, and Everett and Griffin Wishrad. Also survived by his brother Richard (May); aunt, Cele Stahl; and nephews and their families. Burial is at the convenience of the family.
