Martin "Joe" Alvarado

February 14, 1967 — January 9, 2012

On Feb 14, 1967 Martin Joseph Alvarado was born in Chicago, Illinois. The family moved to Texas for a short time before eventually migrating to the Denver, Colorado area in 1974. In the Denver area he attended Highland High School and set down roots. Martin or Joseph, as he was known, met one of his closest friends, Manuel Federico in 1986 and they immediately became good friends,he was a cook at the time and in 1989 he moved up to Keystone Ski Resort. He lived in the mountains for the next four years but he never even went skiing. In 1993 he moved back to Denver and started going to school so he could become a chef in a restaurant. Joe received an Associates Degree from the Colorado Culinary Institute. This is about the time he decided he might want to get into the military. Around 1997 he moved out to Nevada and stayed there for two years. While there he had his daughter Saphyre. He also joined the Army Reserve during his time in Elko, Nevada. Saphyre is now twelve years old and living in Elko with her Mom. He moved back to Colorado and switched over to the Navy Reserve, which he enjoyed much more than the Army mostly because of the opportunity for travel. In 2004 he married his wife Suzanne Bogosian. He immediately was a devoted step-father to her daughter Annissa and they became very close. Joe and Suzanne enjoyed a beautiful mountain ceremony in Breckenridge, Co, surrounded by family and friends. Shortly afterwards they had a daughter Rian. Rian is now seven years old. From 2007 until 2011 Joe was deployed 3 different times, between deployments he continued to work as a cook/chef with a variety of establishments. The final deployment had him back home in May of 2011. Most recently, Joe had decided to return to school and was studying to become a surgical tech. During his time in service to his country, he found a desire to pursue a career in the medical field. Joe was a devoted husband, father, son, brother and friend, as well as a loyal soldier for his country. Joe is survived by his father James and mother Antoinette. His three brothers, Jimmy, James and Nicholas and his sister Linda; in addition to his wife Suzanne and daughters Annissa 20, Saphyre 12, and Rian 7.
