Martin P. Ankenbruck, 96, of Roswell, GA, formerly of Denver, CO, passed away August 21, 2015.
He was born December 20, 1918 in Fort Wayne, Indiana, the son of Oscar and Helen (Nussbaum) Ankenbruck. He was a graduate of South Side High School in Fort Wayne, attended Xavier University and received his Bachelors degree from Indiana University where he was a member of Phi Kappa Theta Fraternity. He honorably served in the US Army during World War II.
On September 15, 1949, he married Nancy Jean Saltz in Columbus, Ohio. After working with his father at Ankenbruck Funeral Home and The Vogue in Fort Wayne, he retired from Philips Electronics Corporation as a Regional Sales Manager. He served on the Board of Directors for the Willow Ranch Condo Association, was a member of VFW Post 5061, and was a lifelong member of the Knights of Columbus, most recently Fr. Francis Syrianey Council at Light of the World Catholic Church. Marty was an eighty-year member of the YMCA. He was a swimming and water aerobics instructor for the Southwest YMCA where he also did fundraising for the Strong Kids campaign and was selected Volunteer of the Year. He enjoyed swimming, hiking in the mountains and skiied until he was eighty-nine years old.
Marty is survived by four sons, James Harry Ankenbruck of Mariposa, CA, David Martin Ankenbruck of Lone Tree, CO, Thomas Charles Ankenbruck of Olney Springs, CO, and Michael James Ankenbruck (Catherine) of Highlands Ranch, CO. ; three daughters, Susan Therese Marrone (Stephen King) of Littleton, CO, Barbara Helen Caldwell (Bruce) of Roswell, GA, and Jane Carol Bennett (Jeff) of Pueblo West, CO. ; ten grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brother, John (the late LaVerne) Ankenbruck; and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Jean Ankenbruck, father, Oscar G. Ankenbruck, mother, Helen M. Ankenbruck, brothers, Jim Ankenbruck and Herman Ankenbruck, sisters, Ruth Meaney and Susie Grosh.
Calling hours are on Thursday, September 3, from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home West at 901 So. Sheridan Blvd. in Lakewood. The Funeral Mass will be on Friday, September 4 at 10:30 a.m. at Light of the World Catholic Church at 10316 West Bowles Ave. in Littleton. A private burial will follow at Fort Logan National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Denver Southwest YMCA Strong Kids Summer Camp or the Light of the World Catholic Church building fund.
