Marvin John Jamison, 91, of Denver, Colorado passed away on April 6, 2015.
Loving Husband to Bess P. Jamison; Father to six children: Mary Sirovatka, Tim (Ann) Jamison, Sally (Greg) Wilson, Pat (Melody) Jamison, Nancy (Les) Homan, and Lori (Dan) Siefers; Grandfather to: Jennifer (Jason) White, Jonathan Wilson, Kristen (Demetri) Fefes, Jeff Sirovatka, Erin Sirovatka, and Steve Siefers; Great-grandfather to: Michael Fefes and Peter Fefes; Brother to: Mary Ellen Loftus, Maxine Smith and Robert Jamison.
Marvin grew up in Des Moines, Iowa. In 1941, he graduated from Dowling High School, where he found time to pitch on its baseball team despite a heavy workload of farming chores at home.
When military service opened to 19-year-old's in 1942, he joined the Navy and earned his commission and naval aviator wings. As soon as the war ended he married his long-time sweetheart, Bess, and he became a union ironworker. He kept up baseball as well, pitching on semi-pro baseball teams in the Des Moines area. He also became active in the Navy Reserve, flying on weekends and getting promoted to Lieutenant before resigning in the 50's.
Their six children were born between 1945 and 1955. In 1957, before Interstate Highways, he and Bess moved the family to Denver for better weather and ironworking opportunities. He missed the Iowa Hawkeyes but soon thereafter the Broncos were born.
A lover of music, he joined the newly formed men's choir at Holy Name Church (formerly St. Pat's) in the 1960's and sang in church choirs for years.
He retired from ironworking in 1985, after which he and Bess were able to visit their children whose lives had taken them out of Denver.
He was a devout Catholic and was happiest when around his family. He was a good guy and a good man. We will miss him.
