Mary Alice Maes

Mary was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico daughter of Beatrice Gutierrez and Frank Tamez. She came to Colorado as a child. She attended West High School. She married Louis Shields and had four children, twins named Betty and Benny (deceased) Carmen, and Louis (deceased). Mary divorced and raised four kids. She married Toby Maes (widowed). She went out on a limb and took out a loan to buy a business in Denver. The Restaurant in Capital Hill was called The Capital Hill Booze and Beans. Mary served up authentic Mexican food and fun. In the late 1990's Mary was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis. She retired from working and fought to keep her independence.

Mary lived in her home in north Denver for over 50 years. Mary had a strong will and beautiful spirit. She will be missed by family and friends.

Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, January 14, 2012 at 2:00 PM at St. Paul's Community Church, 8001 W. 23rd Avenue (23 & Allison), Lakewood, CO with a reception at daughter's home in Wheat Ridge.
