Mary Rose Canino

Mary Rose Canino, née McKain, passed away on September 14, 2026, in Denver, Colorado, the city where she was also born on March 3, 1944. She will be remembered as a deeply kind and loving woman whose warmth, grace, and generous spirit left a lasting mark on everyone fortunate enough to know her.

For most of her career, Mary worked at Mountain Bell and US West, where she served in human resources as a Director. After taking an early retirement, she discovered that retirement did not suit her for long, and she returned to the work she knew so well, finishing her career at EchoStar in Human Resources. Her dedication, professionalism, and care for people were reflected in the work she did throughout the years.

Mary’s life was filled with the simple but lasting joys she loved most. She cherished the mountains, where she found peace and happiness, and she especially loved trout fishing. If her husband, Sam, went fishing without her, he knew he would hear about it—Mary could outfish him and happily sit for hours with patience and skill. She also loved taking drives into the mountains with picnic lunches, turning ordinary days into treasured outings.

At home, Mary created a place where everyone felt welcome. Though Irish by heritage, she delighted in making Sam large Italian dinners in honor of his heritage, and Sunday family dinners became a beloved tradition in their home. Everyone gathered around her table, where there was always plenty of food and always room for one more. Mary was known for her famous holiday fudge and her Italian cookies and pastries, which were always requested by family and friends. Her hospitality was one of the many ways she showed love, and that generous spirit remained with her throughout her life.

She was known for being beautiful and radiant, and for the great tans that became part of her signature presence. More than that, Mary had an unusually kind and sweet disposition. She was not one to complain, and she met life with quiet strength, compassion, and warmth. She was a loving and devoted mother, and those closest to her knew her as the best mom anyone could ask for—compassionate, steady, and full of love.

Mary often said that her proudest accomplishments were her daughters, Debbie and Cindy. She was proud to have raised two independent, strong, and loving women, and that pride was one of the great joys of her life.

She is survived by her daughters, Deborah Meadors and Cindy Canino. She is also survived by her sisters, Holly Anderson and Bonnie Johnson, a brother, Mark Bemus (Kathy) and several nieces and nephews. The love of her family was a central part of her life, and the memories they shared with her will remain a lasting comfort and blessing.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband of sixty-two years, Sam; her brother, Melvin Bemus; her brothers-in-law, Jim Anderson and Winston Johnson; and her son-in-law, Steve Meadors. Their memories remained part of her life and the story of the family she cherished so deeply.

A Celebration Luncheon will be held on Monday, September 28, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, West Metro, 901 S Sheridan Blvd, Denver, Colorado 80226.

Mary Rose Canino will be remembered for her open heart, her welcoming table, her love of family, and the quiet sweetness that defined her life. Her presence brought comfort, joy, and belonging, and she will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Mary's memory.
