Mary Ellen Werner
April 17, 1933 — October 18, 2015
Mary Ellen Werner, aged 82, left us to join her husband on 18 October 2015. Born in Logan, West Virginia, she graduated from West Liberty College with a license as a Dental Hygienist. She met her husband 1st Lt Harold Wayne Werner while working in Arlington, Virginia.
As a military spouse she accompanied him on various assignments to Ft Devens, MA, Chitose, Japan and Ft Meade, MD. She also endured his 2 one-year deployments to Vietnam.
Upon Wayne's retirement from the US Army in 1966, they moved to Greenville, Texas, where she resided until 2010 when she moved to Colorado to be nearer to her daughter.
Mary Ellen was a dedicated homemaker. She was a member of the Hunt County Home Demonstration Club and the Garden Club. She believed that charity started with the individual and gave freely of herself to many in the community. No stray animal was ever turned away from her house and she carried emergency dog food in her car; she and the Vet were on a first name basis. Her legacy of compassion and outreach to many are her shining accomplishments.
She was preceded in death by her one love, her husband of 52 years, Major Harold Wayne Werner, USA retired, in 2009. She is survived by her daughter Colonel Terry L. Chase, USAFR, Retired, son-in-law Richard A. Chase and grandson Brandon F. W. Chase, from Parker, CO; her brother-in-law MSGT Bobby Werner, USAF, Retired and his wife Deanna Werner who currently reside in Bahrain, UAE.
Despite her move to Colorado, she kept up with her friends from Greenville and always wished to return.
