Mary Helen Montoya
Mary Helen Montoya, 86, of Littleton, died Thursday morning, August 18, 2016.
Mary was born to the late Frances and Francis Miranda on July 6, 1930, in Azusa, California. She graduated from Citrus Heights High School in 1948 at the top of her class. Mary was a member of the state volleyball championship team and participated in gymnastics.
Mary loved to travel. As an Air Force wife, she was able to pursue her passion. Her late husband, John Montoya, was stationed in London for two years. She was able to travel to St. Peter's, the Catacombs, and the Coliseum. She also traveled to Spain for two weeks. The Montoyas then moved to Fairborn, Ohio, where John was stationed at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. Mary attended Wright State University in Fairborn, while working and raising her four children. They lived there for nine years, until 1975 when John retired from the service, and came to Denver. Mary was a medical transcriptionist for most of her working career. After retirement, her passions continued to be family and church.
Mary is survived by her four children: Joni, Lori, Chris and Susie. She is also survived by five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, Frances and Francis Miranda, and fifteen brothers and sisters.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Light of the World Church in Littleton or to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.
A private service will be held at 10:00am at Fort Logan Cemetery on Tuesday, August 30, 2016. There will be a reception later that day at Susie Montoya's residence, 8801 West Belleview Avenue, Apt. A102 in Littleton from 5:00pm to 8:00pm. Everyone is welcome to join us.
