Mary Louise Shumake

Mary Louise Shumake, lovingly known as “Boot,” passed away on December 5, 2025, at Brookshire Post Acute. She was born on October 27, 1934, and lived a life filled with love, strength, and devotion to her family.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband, James Shumake; her sisters, Dorothy Sanders and Evelyn Strickland; and her brother, Henry Johnson.

She leaves behind her four beloved daughters: Novia Collins of Denver, Colorado; Venetia Rush (Francis) of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; Serita Hughley of Soddy Daisy, Tennessee; and Robin Burney of Highlands Ranch, Colorado. She is also survived by her cherished grandchildren: James (Brandy) Jeffrey, Matthew Smith, Aquila Hughley, and Lydia (Zane) Bracy, along with extended family and dear friends.

Mary was a faithful and devoted member of The Church of Jes-us in Chattanooga, Tennessee, where she found great joy in worship, fellowship, and serving her church family.

She was well known for her love of cooking and the joy she found in bringing family together around the table. Her warmth, resilience, and quiet strength touched everyone who knew her.

Mary Louise Shumake will be deeply missed but never forgotten. Her legacy of love and faith lives on through the generations she leaves behind.
