Bequeathing a treasury of memories for countless acquaintances attracted by his razor wit, sly grin and infectious humor, Matthew Paul Collins has passed away following a lengthy illness. A native of Longmont, CO, he was 46.
The son of Leonelle and Robert Collins of Longmont, Matt was born Feb. 9, 1967. He died Sunday, July 14, 2013.
He is survived by his loving wife Janet (Hahn) Collins of Denver. Matt and Janet graduated in 1985 from Longmont High School. Matt and Janet, whose true understanding of each other ensured a deeply loving relationship, were married on Sept. 19, 1991, in Denver. They later consecrated their vows before family and friends on June 27, 1992, in Glassboro, NJ. Even though the couple had no children, they cared for many loyal pets that completed their family. The ever faithful companions Quest, Tommy, Henry, and Bob brought Matt much joy and meaning.
As nimble with wielding power tools as he was with delicately extracting the best in other people, Matt was a master of heavy machinery, breaking down and rebuilding formidable engines and assemblies. His smile was brightest when his hands were dirtiest.
In addition to his parents, Matt is survived by his siblings, Marc Collins of Loveland, CO and Keith and Julie (Collins) Briscoe of Beaver Falls, PA. Greatly missed by his nieces Isabella and Lillianna Briscoe, whom he kept entertained with his lightning laugh and penchant for pranks.
Even in illness, Matt maintained his independence, dignity, and optimism for life. A loving son, brother, friend, and husband, he will be greatly missed.
A memorial service will be held for Matt at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 27, 2013 at the Newcomer Family Funeral Home - East Metro Chapel, 190 Potomac St., Aurora, CO 80011.
