Maxine Dorothy Josephine was born in Denver, Colorado to Horace and Lula Sweeney on December 10, 2013. She started school on Sept 2, 1919.
Her younger brother Jack was born in 1920. She graduated from St. Joseph High School June 1931 and at that time she received a $40.00 scholarship to Colorado Commercial College to apply towards the Secretarial Course.
Maxine married Lawrence Ochs (otherwise known as Pork) on July 25, 1934. Their first child Joann Louise Ochs was born May 5, 1935.
Lawrence joined the army during World War II after the United Stated entered the war. Son James was born June 13, 1943. Maxine's father died during the forties and Maxine became the main caretaker for her mother until her death when she was 87. Maxine became a young grandmother when Joann's first child Linda Lucas was born in 1952, Debby followed the next year, with Maryann arriving in 1962. Jim's only son Phillip was born in 1982.
The 1970's became a decade of grief for Maxine; she lost her husband Lawrence in 1972, daughter Joann in 1974, her brother Jack during that decade and her mother Lulu in 1979. Maxine became the monarch of the family and the mother for Linda, Debby and Mary Ann. Maxine was a part of many of the life events of Joann's daughters as well as visiting Phil in Iowa City. She continued to live a full life, bowling weekly, long walks, bus trips to Iowa and Arkansas where Maryann lived with her husband Darryl and two children Grady and Megan. Debby's children Jennifer and Jeremy were born during her marriage to Joe Zuniga. Linda married Alan Johnson. They adopted daughters Haley and Zena.
Maxine was her great granddaughter Jennifer's witness at Jennifer's wedding to Nelson Boyle. Maxine became a great great grandmother with the arrivals of Harper and Ingy Zuniga-Boyle. Grady and his wife Jacqueline produced Gabby and Elijah Watson along with Logan Watson, great granddaughter Megan's son.
In Maxine's later years she loved to watch her family interact especially the children. Along with her granddaughter Debby, she went on countless day rides to the mountains which renewed her soul. She will be greatly missed by the members of this family who were so fortunate to have her be a part of their lives for so many years. Maxine J. Ochs, passed away on her 99th birthday, December 10, 2012 with her beloved granddaughters, great granddaughter Jennifer and her husband Nelson at her side.
