Melfrieda "Frieda" Barbara Greenwood

December 5, 1933 — July 1, 2025

Denver

Melfrieda "Frieda" Barbara Greenwood was more than a name; she was a lively embodiment of warmth and love in the tapestry of life, weaving together family, friendship, and cherished memories. Born on December 5, 1933, in the quiet town of Catherine, Kansas, Frieda's journey took her far from the farm where she began. At the tender age of 17, she set off to carve her own path, eventually finding her true home in Denver, Colorado, in 1953.

Frieda's spirit was infectious. A fun-loving woman with a penchant for laughter, she brought light into every room she entered. She had a way of making everyone feel special, her kind and thoughtful nature shining through in every interaction. Whether it was a chat over a glass of wine at her daughter's house or a neighborly visit, she was always considerate of others, selflessly putting their needs before her own.

As a devoted homemaker, her family stood as her proudest accomplishment. For 47 blessed years, she shared her life with her late husband, Lloyd Greenwood, creating a legacy of love and support that will resonate through generations. Her heart went out to her sons, Gary and Jeff (Barb), and her daughter, Melissa (Paul); she treasured each moment shared with them, infusing her household with warmth and laughter. She adored her grandchildren — Alex (Faustine), Giancarlo — embracing them with open arms and undivided attention, she was also blessed with two great-grandchildren, Jaxx and Lynx.

Frieda found her joy not only in the harmony of family life but also in the simple pleasures that surrounded her. Her love for nature was evident as she lovingly tended to her yard. Frieda was always eager to go for walks, walking was one of her greatest loves, it would not be an exaggeration to say she walked thousands of miles in her lifetime. She also loved to spend time with her cherished cats. A modest traveler, she delighted in adventures to Europe, Hawaii, San Diego, and the mountain towns of Colorado, each journey filling her heart with memories to share. And who could forget her sweet tooth? A life filled with sweets was simply perfect in her eyes.

On July 1, 2025, surrounded by loved ones, Frieda slipped peacefully away from this world, leaving behind an indelible mark on all who knew her. She joins the embrace of those who preceded her: her husband, Lloyd, and her siblings Hubert, Elmer, Robert, and Edna, all of whom now find solace together.

Frieda’s spirit will forever live on in the hearts of her family, who continue to carry forth her legacy of love, laughter, and unwavering kindness. A visitation will be held on July 11, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Newcomer Funeral Home, West Metro in Denver. A viewing will follow on July 14, 2025, from 10:00 AM, concluding with a rosary at 10:30 AM, and a mass at 11:00 AM, all taking place at Mother of God Catholic Church. Frieda will then be laid to rest during a graveside service at Fort Logan National Cemetery at 1:00 PM.

Celebrate the life of Frieda Greenwood, a woman whose legacy of selflessness and compassion will be felt for years to come. As we gather to remember her, we embrace the laughter, the love, and the spirit that defined her.
