"Return to your rest, O my soul, for the Lord has dealt bountifully with you. For You have rescued my soul from death, my eyes from tears, my feet from stumbling. I shall walk before the Lord…" Psalm 116:7-9

Melissa Ann Bettis was born on October 27th, 1981 in Newport, RI to Earnest J. Bernard and Sharie Ann (Mott) Prigge. Melissa was the second of three children and known best to her siblings as "Toad" for her early childhood fascination for frogs. Her smile would light up a room and her ability to make just about anyone laugh was a trademark.

Melissa was raised in a Navy family and moved quite frequently in her early childhood years, however found her roots in Aurora Colorado where she attended Aurora Central High School. As a gifted softball player, she made her mark as a leader and outstanding athlete on the Lady Trojans varsity softball team. She forged many friendships and left lasting impacts on many of her teammates and peers.

Undoubtedly, Melissa's greatest accomplishment in life was giving birth to a beautiful baby girl, Maddison Grace. Maddison was the true apple of her mom's eye and brought more joy to Melissa than anything else ever could.

Melissa was surrounded by family as she went home to be with the Lord on the evening of March 20th. She is survived by her daughter Maddison Grace Bettis; her parents Earnest Bernard (step-mother Faye Bernard) of Indianapolis, IN and Sharie Prigge of Kingman, AZ; her older sister Debra Harrison of Suffolk, VA; her younger brother Justin Bernard of Jacksonville, FL; her grandmother Melva Mott. She is also survived by Aunts, Uncles, Nieces, Nephews, and Cousins from Arizona, Virginia, Florida, Colorado and Washington, as well as dear friends around the country.

She will be missed by many and loved forever by those who knew her best. The family would like to thank all who have prayed for them in this time of grief, and ask that your prayers would continue as they cope and celebrate Melissa's life, treasuring each and every moment and memory they had together.
