She was born June 16, 1920 in Charles City, Iowa, the daughter of Wayne and Amy (Birch) Wert.
She attended school in Garden City, Kansas.
On October 12, 1943, she married John A. Dechant.
Melva is survived by Four Daughters, Cheryl Snider, Janet Litt, Lorraine S. Nichol and Kathye Jersild; 9 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by Husband, John A. Dechant; Father, Wayne Wert; Mother, Amy Wert and Grandchild, David Nichol.
