Mervin Eigsti

December 6, 1930 — October 29, 2014

Mervin Eigsti, age 83, died October 29, 2014, in Denver, Colorado.

A memorial service will be held at Glennon Heights Mennonite Church, 11480 W. Virginia Ave, Lakewood, CO 80226 on November 8th at 2:00 p.m.

Merv was born on a farm near Wayland, Iowa, on December 6, 1930, to Emery and Edna (Wenger) Eigsti. He loved to play sports, playing baseball, basketball, and track at Wayland High School. He married his high school sweetheart, Ardith Wagler, and they began their married life on the family farm. He also sold seed corn and drove the school bus. In 1957, because of health reasons, they moved to Denver, Colorado.

Merv worked at IBM, Caterpillar, and finally, Consolidated Parts, where he was known for his knowledge, work ethic, humor, and his outstanding customer service. He retired from Consolidate Parts at age 62, after 28 years, but returned to work and finished his career at QED.

Merv and Ardith found great joy in their four children and their spouses: Stan (Karen Nakandakare) Eigsti of Lakewood, Colorado, Becky (Jon) Widmer of Washington, Iowa, Randy (Anita) Landis-Eigsti of Lakewood, and Brad (Heidi) Eigsti of Lakewood, along with nine grandchildren: Abraham LaMark, Jill (Widmer) Lundberg, Jared Widmer, Jason Widmer, Jesse Landis-Eigsti, Jacob Landis-Eigsti, Ryan Eigsti, Sara Eigsti, and Luke Eigsti; and six great-grandchildren: Alla LaMark, Isaiah LaMark, Livia Lundberg, Abe Widmer, Eliza Widmer, and Emma Widmer.

Merv loved the church and was a charter member of Glennon Heights Mennonite Church, serving as Elder, Sunday School superintendent, and with Ardith, as Youth Sponsors and Ushers for many years. He was an active member of the Optimist Club and served as president of the Southwest Denver chapter. He also liked to meet new people and see new places, traveling with Ardith to England, Brazil, Russia, Lesotho, and many parts of the U.S. He was a skilled craftsman, making grandfather clocks, "Bronco lamps," and wind chimes, and could fix just about anything.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his infant sister Marilyn, and brother-in-law, Dean Meyer, and is survived by Ardith, his wife of 62 years, his brother Orlin (Ina) Eigsti of Hesston, KS, his sister Doris Meyer of Wayland, IA and Ruth (Del) Miller of Lakewood, CO, and all of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Donations can be sent to Glennon Heights Mennonite Church or Hospice of Denver.
