Michael L. Mcgrath

Janesville---Michael L. McGrath, age 62, passed away peacefully in his home in Lakewood, Colorado, on Tuesday, May 30th. Michael was born September 8th, 1954, in Janesville, Wisconsin to Donald and Doris McGrath. He graduated from Parker High School in 1972, where he was part of the 1971 State Basketball Championship Team. Upon graduation, Mike attended UW-Parkside. Following college, Mike began his career working for the family business, McGrath Electric. He started working hard in the field as an electrical apprentice and transitioned his way to President of the company. Throughout his many years in business Mike served on numerous committees and non-profit/charitable organizations. Mike served as president of Associated Builders and Contractors of Wisconsin from 1997-1998. He married Katherine Offerdahl on July 16th, 1977. Soon after he was blessed with four children, Lance (Lunch), Matt (MJ), Sara (Bo), and Dan (Pinhead). Upon Mike's retirement from McGrath Electric, he moved to the great Northwoods of Minocqua, where he enjoyed many years of outdoor activities including hunting, fishing, camping, and hiking. Mike's next adventure began when he moved to the front range in Colorado, where he went from lakes and trees, to mountains and streams.

Throughout his life, Mike displayed his intense dedication to his employees and peers. He found purpose in training the next generation of young minds. As passionate as Mike was about work, he was equally as passionate about his hobbies. Mike crisscrossed North America on countless hunting and fishing excursions with all the people with whom he was close. He made memories with his biological children, and those who knew him as "Uncle Mike." These countless adventures led to even more stories, which became even more grandiose each time he recounted them. Mike's family welcomes you to share these stories and more with each other during the memorial.

Mike is survived by his four children: Lance (Stephanie) of Zurich, Switzerland, Matthew of the World, Sara (Paxton) of Janesville, and Daniel of Iowa City, Iowa; three grandchildren, Imogen Reigh, Finnegan Michael, and Presley Rose; his siblings, David of Janesville, Andy (Mary) of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Vince (Naomi) of Janesville, Ed (Jayne) of Oregon, and Leigh Ann (Dave) of Franklin. He is further survived by countless family and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Don and Doris.

A Memorial Visitation will be held from 11:00 to 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 7, 2017, at SCHNEIDER FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY. Please join us for A Celebration of Life at the Elk's Lodge, at 3:00 p.m. where Mike invites you to come dressed representing the memories he shared with you. Please also be prepared to sing Amazing Grace to the tune of Gilligan's Island and answer the age-old question, "Why do people go out for home cooking?"
