MILDRED JEAN (COSGROVE) JOHNSON 1926-2016
Mildred J. Johnson, 89 of Morrison, Colorado, died on Monday, March 21, 2016 after complications of surgery.
Mildred was born in Rapid City, South Dakota, and moved to Rockford, Illinois as a teenager. There she met her handsome sailor Ralph, where they were married on September 14, 1946. They enjoyed 61 years together, which included many travels and adventures during their retirement, Ireland and Hawaii being their favorite destinations.
For 35 years, Millie was known for her expertise as a manicurist in some of the best salons in Rockford, where she formed many lasting friendships. However, she was best known for her hospitality, love of people, and sense of adventure. When hosting guests in her home, however small or large the gathering, with her usual spunk and attention to detail, she made each guest feel welcome and special. Good times were always had at the Johnson parties! Mom's leisurely afternoons were spent reading or playing Scrabble or attending some cultural event in Rockford or Chicago. She also had a keen eye for interior decorating each of her homes, and she particularly enjoyed working in her garden, an activity that made her eagerly anticipate the time when the whole earth will be a paradise garden.
Mom's real love for people was greatly reflected in her life as one of Jehovah's Witnesses. During her 60 years of dedicated service to her God Jehovah, she trained and taught her four children about the importance of spirituality and truth, and extended this to neighbors and strangers alike in her ministry. Like her, she wanted everyone to know Jehovah and the rich spiritual blessings they too could receive from coming to know Him. As her children, we are greatly thankful for this legacy. For now, she is resting in God's memory.
Millie was preceded in death by her husband in 2007, and by all but one of her 7 siblings.
Survivors include her sister, Joan Wolfe of Colorado; children: Tammie (John) Clements of Colorado, Michael (Lori) Johnson of Rockford, Illinois, Jody (Emilio) Campos of Colorado, and Dave Johnson of Colorado; grandchildren: Justin Clements, Benjamin Clements, Raechel Teeters, Adam Johnson, Becky Grandstrand, Danielle Campos; and eight adorable great-grandchildren: DevIn, Emma, Nolan, Adam Jr., Landon, Karmen, Olivia, Octavia.
Private memorial service to be determined at a later date. We thank all of you who knew Millie, whether for many years or not so many years, for your loving friendship during her rich, full life. We know she loved you all.
